Numbers 30:2

God's Word

If a man makes a vow to the Lord that he will do something or swears an oath that he won’t do something, he must not break his word. He must do everything he said he would do.

It is a trap for a person to say impulsively, “This is a holy offering!” and later to have second thoughts about those vows.

“If you hastily take a vow about what you will or will not do (as some people do) and then ignore it (although you know what you said), you will be guilty.

There on the mountains are the feet of a messenger who announces the good news: “All is well!” Celebrate your festivals, Judah! Keep your vows! This wickedness will never pass your way again. It will be completely removed.

Again you say, ‘To swear an oath by the altar doesn’t mean a thing. But to swear an oath by the gift on the altar means a person must keep his oath.’

In the morning the Jews formed a conspiracy. They asked God to curse them if they ate or drank anything before they had killed Paul.

They went to the chief priests and leaders ⌞of the people⌟ and said, “We’ve asked God to curse us if we taste any food before we’ve killed Paul.

Don’t let them persuade you to do this. More than forty of them are planning to ambush him. They have asked God to curse them if they eat or drink anything before they have murdered him. They are ready now and are expecting you to promise ⌞that you will bring Paul⌟.”

I appeal to God as a witness on my behalf, that I stayed away from Corinth because I wanted to spare you.

Jephthah went with them, and the people made him their leader and commander. So Jephthah went to Mizpah and repeated all these things in the presence of the Lord.

At the end of those two months she came back to her father. He did to her what he had vowed, and she never had a husband. So the custom began in Israel
