Moses reported this to the Israelites. But they would not listen to him because they were so discouraged by their back-breaking work.

“Then they went through the desert, by-passing Edom and Moab. They camped east of Moab—east of the Arnon River. They did not cross the Arnon River because it was Moab’s border.

That might discourage them from entering the land the Lord has given them.

They strengthened the disciples in these cities and encouraged the disciples to remain faithful. Paul and Barnabas told them, “We must suffer a lot to enter God’s kingdom.”

They moved from Mount Hor and set up camp at Zalmonah.

They went as far as the Eshcol Valley and saw the land. But then they discouraged the rest of the Israelites from entering the land that the Lord had given them.

Turn around, go back into the desert, and follow the road that goes to the Red Sea.”

Moses did as the Lord commanded. The whole community saw them go up on Mount Hor.

(The Amalekites and Canaanites are living in the valleys.) Tomorrow you must turn around, go back into the desert, and follow the road that goes to the Red Sea.”

We went back into the desert, following the road that goes to the Red Sea as the Lord had told me. For a long time we traveled around the region of Mount Seir.

Joram asked, “Which road should we take?” Jehoshaphat answered, “The road through the desert of Edom.”
