Numbers 18:9

That part of the most holy offerings which is not burned belongs to you. It may come from a grain offering, an offering for sin, or a guilt offering. Whatever is brought to me as a most holy offering will belong to you and your sons.

At this time King Hazael of Aram fought against Gath and conquered it. He was also determined to attack Jerusalem.

Following the directions in the Teachings, we have drawn lots to decide who should bring the firstborn of our sons, our cattle, and our flocks to the priests serving in our God’s temple.

Then the man said to me, “The northern and southern side rooms that face the open area are holy rooms. These rooms are where the priests who come near the Lord eat the holiest offerings. Because these rooms are holy, the priests keep the holiest offerings there: the grain offerings, the offerings for sin, and the guilt offerings.

They will eat grain offerings, offerings for sin, and guilt offerings. Everything in Israel that is devoted to the Lord will belong to them.

He asked them, “Why didn’t you eat the offering for sin in the holy place? It is very holy and was given to you to take away the sins of the congregation and to make peace with the Lord for them.

He will slaughter the lamb in the holy place where he slaughters the offering for sin and the burnt offering. He will do this because the guilt offering, like the offering for sin, belongs to the priest. It is very holy.

The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons. It is very holy, set apart from the Lord’s offering by fire.

But if a priest buys a slave, the slave and anyone born in his household may eat the priest’s food.

When the sun has set, he will be clean. Then he may eat the holy offerings because they are his food.

“When a leader unintentionally does something wrong—even one thing that is forbidden by any of the commands of the Lord his God—he will be guilty.

“If a common person unintentionally does something wrong—even one thing forbidden by the Lord’s commands—he will be guilty.

⌞The Lord continued,⌟ “Now, if you are a witness under oath and won’t tell what you saw or what you know, you are sinning and will be punished.

Bring your guilt offering to the Lord for the sin you committed. It must be a female sheep or goat as an offering for sin. Then the priest will make peace with the Lord for what you did wrong.

Don’t use yeast in baking the bread. I have given it to them as their share from the offerings by fire made to me. It is very holy like the offering for sin and the guilt offering.

Any offering for sin must not be eaten if some of the blood was brought into the holy place in the tent of meeting to make peace with the Lord. It must be burned.”

⌞The Lord continued,⌟ “These are the instructions for the guilt offering. It is very holy.

Any male among the priests may eat it. It will be eaten in a holy place. It is very holy.

“The same instructions apply to the offering for sin and the guilt offering. Both offerings belong to the priest to make peace with the Lord.

Eat it in a most holy place. Any male may eat it. You must consider it holy.

The Levitical priests—in fact, the whole tribe of Levi—will receive no land or property of their own like the rest of the Israelites. They will eat what has been sacrificed to the Lord. These sacrifices will be what they receive.
