But you must remain strong and not become discouraged. Your actions will be rewarded.”

Sennacherib’s officers shouted loudly in the Judean language to the troops who were on the wall of Jerusalem. They tried to frighten and terrify the troops so that they could capture the city.

All their neighbors ⌞who were remaining behind⌟ provided them with articles made from silver and gold, supplies, livestock, and valuable gifts besides everything that was freely offered.

⌞Nehemiah prayed,⌟ “My God, remember what Tobiah and Sanballat have done. Also, remember the female prophet Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who have been trying to intimidate me.”

When I called, you answered me. You made me bold by strengthening my soul.

Even when I am afraid, I still trust you.

God, the God of Israel, is awe-inspiring in his holy place. He gives strength and power to his people. Thanks be to God!

I have taken refuge in you, O Lord. Never let me be put to shame.

He gives strength to those who grow tired and increases the strength of those who are weak.

Don’t be afraid, because I am with you. Don’t be intimidated; I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will support you with my victorious right hand.

Then the officials said to the king, “Have this man put to death. He discourages the soldiers who are left in this city and all the people by telling them such things. This man is not trying to help these people; he’s trying to hurt them.”

I will make the arms of the king of Babylon strong. I will put my sword in his hand, but I will break Pharaoh’s arms. Pharaoh will groan like a person who is dying.

“I will strengthen them in the Lord. They will live in his name,” declares the Lord.

But he told me: “My kindness  is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I will brag even more about my weaknesses in order that Christ’s power will live in me.

I’m asking God to give you a gift from the wealth of his glory. I pray that he would give you inner strength and power through his Spirit.

Finally, receive your power from the Lord and from his mighty strength.

I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.

Strengthen your tired arms and weak knees.

God, who shows you his kindness  and who has called you through Christ Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, strengthen you, make you strong, and support you as you suffer for a little while.

David was in great distress because the people in their bitterness said he should be stoned. (They were thinking of their sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.)
