Nehemiah 10:34

We priests, Levites, and laypeople have drawn lots to decide the order in which the heads of our families should bring wood to our God’s temple to burn on the altar of the Lord our God at appointed times every year according to the directions in the Teachings.

Both groups were divided impartially by drawing lots so that there were officers for the holy place and officers for God among both Eleazar’s and Ithamar’s descendants.

The first lot drawn was for Jehoiarib, the second for Jedaiah,

All the trees in Lebanon are not enough to burn an offering. Its wild animals are not enough for a single burnt offering.

“Also take flour and bake twelve rings of bread. Each ring will contain four quarts of flour.

Put them in two stacks of six each on the gold table in the Lord’s presence.

“Give this command to the Israelites: Be sure to bring me my offerings at the right times. They are my food. They are offerings by fire, a soothing aroma.

They drew names to choose an apostle. Matthias was chosen and joined the eleven apostles.

But that day Joshua made them woodcutters and water carriers for the congregation. They served the Lord’s altar, wherever he chose to put it. They still serve today.
