God's Word

Now, gather your troops, you city of troops. We are under attack. Enemies will strike the judge of Israel on the cheek with a stick.

Every warrior’s boot marching to the sound of battle and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel in the fire.

so I’m going to send for all the families from the north. I will also send for my servant King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, declares the Lord. I will bring the families from the north to attack this land, its people, and all these surrounding nations. I’m going to destroy them and turn them into something terrible, something ridiculed, and something permanently ruined.

A lion has come out of its lair. A destroyer of nations has set out. He has left his place to destroy your land. Your cities will be ruined, and no one will live in them.

They should turn their cheeks to the one who strikes them and take their fill of insults.

You will be fuel for the fire. You will die in the land. You will no longer be remembered. I, the Lord, have spoken.’ ”

“Son of man, write down today’s date. The king of Babylon has surrounded Jerusalem this very day.

Learn, then, and understand that from the time the command is given to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the anointed prince comes, seven sets of seven time periods and sixty-two sets of seven time periods will pass. Jerusalem will be restored and rebuilt with a city square and a moat during the troubles of those times.

Announce this among the nations: Prepare yourselves for war. Wake up the warriors. Have all the warriors come near and attack.

I will take their judges away from them. I will kill all their officials at the same time. The Lord has said this.

I am going to send the Babylonians, that fierce and reckless nation. They will march throughout the earth to take possession of lands that don’t belong to them.

I have heard, so there’s trembling within me. At the report my lips quivered. A rotten feeling has entered me. I tremble where I stand. I wait for the day of trouble to come to the people who will attack us.

Then they spit in his face, hit him with their fists, and some of them slapped him.

After they had spit on him, they took the stick and kept hitting him on the head with it.

But I tell you not to oppose an evil person. If someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn your other cheek to him as well.

When Jesus said this, one of the guards standing near Jesus slapped his face and said, “Is that how you answer the chief priest?”

They went up to him, said, “Long live the king of the Jews!” and slapped his face.

The chief priest Ananias ordered the men standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth.

When someone makes you slaves, consumes your wealth, seizes your property, orders you around, or slaps your faces, you put up with it.

The Lord will bring against you a nation from far away, from the ends of the earth. The nation will swoop down on you like an eagle. It will be a nation whose language you won’t understand.

The eternal God is your shelter, and his everlasting arms support you. He will force your enemies out of your way and tell you to destroy them.

There was a young man from Bethlehem in Judah. (Bethlehem belongs to the family of Judah.) He was a Levite but was living in Bethlehem.
