He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. This was in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.

Jesus returned to the city of Cana in Galilee, where he had changed water into wine. A government official was in Cana. His son was sick in Capernaum.

Then they went to Capernaum. On the next day of rest—a holy day, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.

And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to heaven? No, you will go down to hell! If the miracles that had been worked in you had been worked in Sodom, it would still be there today.

Jesus said this while he was teaching in a synagogue in Capernaum.

When the people saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into these boats and went to the city of Capernaum to look for Jesus.

They got into a boat and started to cross the sea to the city of Capernaum. By this time it was dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.

After this, Jesus, his mother, brothers, and disciples went to the city of Capernaum and stayed there for a few days.

When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came to Peter. They asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”

So he said to them, “You’ll probably quote this proverb to me, ‘Doctor, cure yourself!’ and then say to me, ‘Do all the things in your hometown that we’ve heard you’ve done in Capernaum.’ ”

So what the prophet Isaiah had said came true:

“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, on the way to the sea, across the Jordan River, Galilee, where foreigners live!

Jesus got into a boat, crossed the sea, and came to his own city.

Several days later Jesus came back to Capernaum. The report went out that he was home.

And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to heaven? No, you will go to hell!
