At that time there was a well-known prisoner by the name of Barabbas.

There was a man named Barabbas in prison. He was with some rebels who had committed murder during a riot.

Although they know God’s judgment that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do these things but also approve of others who do them.

You rejected the man who was holy and innocent. You asked to have a murderer given to you,

The Jews shouted again, “Don’t free this man! Free Barabbas!” (Barabbas was a political revolutionary.)

He freed Barabbas, who had been put in prison for rioting and murdering, because that’s what they wanted. But he let them do what they wanted to Jesus.

At every Passover festival the governor would free one prisoner whom the crowd wanted.

So when the people gathered, Pilate asked them, “Which man do you want me to free for you? Do you want me to free Barabbas or Jesus, who is called Christ?”

Greet Andronicus and Junia, who are Jewish by birth like me. They are prisoners like me and are prominent among the apostles. They also were Christians before I was.
