While the chief priests and leaders were accusing him, he said nothing.

He was abused and punished, but he didn’t open his mouth. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. He was like a sheep that is silent when its wool is cut off. He didn’t open his mouth.

But Jesus was silent. Then the chief priest said to him, “Swear an oath in front of the living God and tell us, are you the Messiah, the Son of God?”

Then Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear how many charges they’re bringing against you?”

But Jesus said absolutely nothing to him in reply, so the governor was very surprised.

Herod asked Jesus many questions, but Jesus wouldn’t answer him.

This was the part of the Scriptures that the official was reading: “He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. He was like a sheep that is silent when its wool is cut off. He didn’t open his mouth.

Christ never verbally abused those who verbally abused him. When he suffered, he didn’t make any threats but left everything to the one who judges fairly.
