Then Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, went to Micaiah and struck him on the cheek. “How did the Lord’s Spirit leave me to talk to you?” he asked.

After they had spit on him, they took the stick and kept hitting him on the head with it.

They will make fun of him, spit on him, whip him, and kill him. But after three days he will come back to life.”

Some of them began to spit on him. They covered his face and hit him with their fists. They said to him, “Prophesy!” Even the guards took him and slapped him.

They kept hitting him on the head with a stick, spitting on him, and kneeling in front of him with false humility.

When Jesus said this, one of the guards standing near Jesus slapped his face and said, “Is that how you answer the chief priest?”

They went up to him, said, “Long live the king of the Jews!” and slapped his face.

When our reputations are attacked, we remain courteous. Right now we have become garbage in the eyes of the world and trash in the sight of all people.

his brother’s widow must go up to him in the presence of the leaders. She must take off one of his sandals and spit in his face. She must make this formal statement: “This is what happens to a man who refuses to continue his brother’s family line.”

We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Now he holds the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne.
