Pilate saw that he was not getting anywhere. Instead, a riot was breaking out. So Pilate took some water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. He said, “I won’t be guilty of killing this man. Do what you want!”

Killing the Passover lamb was customary on the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The disciples asked Jesus, “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you?”

However, they said, “We shouldn’t arrest him during the festival, or else there will be a riot among the people.”

Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will abandon me. Scripture says, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’

But if we say, ‘from humans,’ everyone will stone us to death. They’re convinced that John was a prophet.”

The day came during the Festival of Unleavened Bread when the Passover lamb had to be killed.

Early in the morning, Jesus was taken from Caiaphas’ house to the governor’s palace. The Jews wouldn’t go into the palace. They didn’t want to become unclean, since they wanted to eat the Passover.

The confusion spread throughout the city, and the people had one thought in mind as they rushed into the theater. They grabbed Gaius and Aristarchus, the Macedonians who traveled with Paul, and they dragged the two men into the theater with them.

Aren’t you the Egyptian who started a revolution not long ago and led four thousand terrorists into the desert?”

Through your will and power, they did everything that you had already decided should be done.
