Annas sent Jesus to Caiaphas, the chief priest. Jesus was still tied up.

Peter followed him at a distance and went into the chief priest’s courtyard. He sat with the guards and warmed himself facing the glow of a fire.

Early in the morning, Jesus was taken from Caiaphas’ house to the governor’s palace. The Jews wouldn’t go into the palace. They didn’t want to become unclean, since they wanted to eat the Passover.

(The chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that whoever knew where Jesus was should tell them so that they could arrest him.)

But you must listen to me and observe the day of rest as a holy day by not carrying anything through the gates of Jerusalem on the day of rest. If you don’t do this, I will set its gates on fire. The fire will burn down the palaces in Jerusalem, and you won’t be able to put it out.”

I was like a trusting lamb brought to the slaughter. I didn’t know that they were plotting against me. They were saying, “Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit. Let’s cut Jeremiah off from this world of the living so that we won’t be reminded of him anymore.”

They attack, and then they hide. They watch my every step as they wait to take my life.

It was at the time when Annas and Caiaphas were chief priests that God spoke to John, son of Zechariah, in the desert.

Peter was sitting in the courtyard. A female servant came to him and said, “You, too, were with Jesus the Galilean.”

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the palace and gathered the whole troop around him.

The soldiers led Jesus into the courtyard of the palace and called together the whole troop.

Some men had lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard. As they sat together, Peter sat among them.
