and made his home in a city called Nazareth. So what the prophets had said came true: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

When Jesus came into Jerusalem, the whole city was in an uproar. People were asking, “Who is this?”

But if we say, ‘from humans,’ we’re afraid of what the crowd might do. All those people think of John as a prophet.”

They wanted to arrest him but were afraid of the crowds, who thought he was a prophet.

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Still others said, “He is a prophet like one of the other prophets.”

But I must be on my way today, tomorrow, and the next day. It’s not possible for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.

“What happened?” he asked. They said to him, “We were discussing what happened to Jesus from Nazareth. He was a powerful prophet in what he did and said in the sight of God and all the people.

Everyone was struck with fear and praised God. They said, “A great prophet has appeared among us,” and “God has taken care of his people.”

The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this and thought, “If this man really were a prophet, he would know what sort of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner.”

They asked him, “Well, are you Elijah?” John answered, “No, I’m not.” Then they asked, “Are you the prophet?” John replied, “No.”

They asked John, “Why do you baptize if you’re not the Messiah or Elijah or the prophet?”

The woman said to Jesus, “I see that you’re a prophet!

When the people saw the miracle Jesus performed, they said, “This man is certainly the prophet who is to come into the world.”

After some of the crowd heard Jesus say these words, they said, “This man is certainly the prophet.”

They asked the man who had been born blind another question: “What do you say about the man who gave you sight?” The man answered, “He’s a prophet.”

This is the same Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will send you a prophet, an Israelite like me.’
