Bathsheba went to King Solomon to talk to him on Adonijah’s behalf. The king got up to meet her and bowed down in front of her. Then he sat on his throne. He had a throne brought for his mother, and she sat at his right side.

In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. He said, “What can I give you?”

Then the king asked her, “What is troubling you, Queen Esther? What would you like? Even if it is up to half of the kingdom, it will be granted to you.”

The Lord said to my Lord, “Take the honored position—the one next to me [God the Father] on the heavenly throne until I put your enemies under your control.”

The daughters of kings are among your noble ladies. The queen takes her place at your right hand and wears gold from Ophir.

Are you looking for great things for yourself? Don’t look for them, because I’m going to bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord. But wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’ ”

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

Jesus said to them, “I can guarantee this truth: When the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne in the world to come, you, my followers, will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus replied, “You don’t realize what you’re asking. Can you drink the cup that I’m going to drink?” “We can,” they told him.

Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.

Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said, “Teacher, I want to see again.”

After talking with the apostles, the Lord was taken to heaven, where he received the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the throne.

His daughter, that is, Herodias’ daughter, came in and danced. Herod and his guests were delighted with her. The king told the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.”

“What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said, “Lord, I want to see again.”

Jesus was getting closer to Jerusalem, and the people thought that God’s kingdom would appear suddenly. While Jesus had the people’s attention, he used this illustration.

Then a quarrel broke out among the disciples. They argued about who should be considered the greatest.

If you live in me and what I say lives in you, then ask for anything you want, and it will be yours.

So when the apostles came together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you’re going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.

Who will condemn them? Christ has died, and more importantly, he was brought back to life. Christ is in the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne. Christ also intercedes for us.

Since you were brought back to life with Christ, focus on the things that are above—where Christ holds the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne.
