Some Pharisees came to test him. They asked, “Can a man divorce his wife for any reason?”

Some Pharisees came to test him. They asked, “Can a husband divorce his wife?”

That is where your ancestors tested me,

They asked this to test him. They wanted to find a reason to bring charges against him. Jesus bent down and used his finger to write on the ground.

Jesus recognized their hypocrisy, so he asked them, “Why do you test me? Bring me a coin so that I can look at it.”

The leaders sent some of the Pharisees and some of Herod’s followers to Jesus. They wanted to trap him into saying the wrong thing.

One of them, an expert in Moses’ Teachings, tested Jesus by asking,

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus. So they asked him to show them a miraculous sign from heaven.

I pass this command along (not really I, but the Lord): A wife shouldn’t leave her husband.
