Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man would have to suffer a lot. He taught them that he would be rejected by the leaders, the chief priests, and the experts in Moses’ Teachings. He would be killed, but after three days he would come back to life.

The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

He was despised and rejected by people. He was a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering. He was despised like one from whom people turn their faces, and we didn’t consider him to be worth anything.

After two days he will revive us. On the third day he will raise us so that we may live in his presence.

The Lord sent a big fish to swallow Jonah. Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.

Just as Jonah was in the belly of a huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

Jesus asked them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. The Lord is responsible for this, and it is amazing for us to see’?

They said, “Sir, we remember how that deceiver said while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will be brought back to life.’

Have you never read the Scripture passage: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

But first he must suffer a lot and be rejected by the people of his day.

Didn’t the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter into his glory?”

Then he said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you. I told you that everything written about me in Moses’ Teachings, the Prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.”

Those who reject me by not accepting what I say have a judge appointed for them. The words that I have spoken will judge them on the last day.

Jesus replied, “Tear down this temple, and I’ll rebuild it in three days.”

“This is the Moses whom the Israelites rejected by saying, ‘Who made you our ruler and judge?’ This is the one God sent to free them and to rule them with the help of the Messenger who appeared to him in the bush.

He was placed in a tomb. He was brought back to life on the third day as the Scriptures predicted.

But now you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and distresses. You said, ‘No! Place a king over us.’ Now then, stand in front of the Lord by your tribes and family groups.”

The Lord told Samuel, “Listen to everything the people are saying to you. They haven’t rejected you; they’ve rejected me.
