They answered him, “Some say you are John the Baptizer, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets.”

“I’m going to send you the prophet Elijah before that very terrifying day of the Lord comes.

He said to his officials, “This is John the Baptizer! He has come back to life. That’s why he has the power to perform these miracles.”

They answered, “Some say you are John the Baptizer, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

They asked him, “Well, are you Elijah?” John answered, “No, I’m not.” Then they asked, “Are you the prophet?” John replied, “No.”
