Those who hate me for no reason outnumber the hairs on my head. Those who want to destroy me are mighty. They have no reason to be my enemies. I am forced to pay back what I did not steal.

He was despised and rejected by people. He was a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering. He was despised like one from whom people turn their faces, and we didn’t consider him to be worth anything.

He was placed in a tomb with the wicked. He was put there with the rich when he died, although he had done nothing violent and had never spoken a lie.

While Pilate was judging the case, his wife sent him a message. It said, “Leave that innocent man alone. I’ve been very upset today because of a dream I had about him.”

He said, “I’ve sinned by betraying an innocent man.” They replied, “What do we care? That’s your problem.”

An army officer and those watching Jesus with him saw the earthquake and the other things happening. They were terrified and said, “Certainly, this was the Son of God!”

“Crucify him!” they shouted back.

Pilate wanted to satisfy the people, so he freed Barabbas for them. But he had Jesus whipped and handed over to be crucified.

They began yelling, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”

Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I can’t find this man guilty of any crime.”

Our punishment is fair. We’re getting what we deserve. But this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”

When an army officer saw what had happened, he praised God and said, “Certainly, this man was innocent!”

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After Pilate said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I don’t find this man guilty of anything.

When the chief priests and the guards saw Jesus, they shouted, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate told them, “You take him and crucify him. I don’t find this man guilty of anything.”

Although they couldn’t find any good reason to kill him, they asked Pilate to have him executed.

But when they recognized that Alexander was a Jew, everyone started to shout in unison, “Artemis of the Ephesians is great!” They kept doing this for about two hours.

We need a chief priest who is holy, innocent, pure, set apart from sinners, and who holds the honored position—the one next to God the Father on the heavenly throne.

Rather, the payment that freed you was the precious blood of Christ, the lamb with no defects or imperfections.
