Just then a rooster crowed a second time. Peter remembered that Jesus said to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Then Peter began to cry very hard.

After David counted the people, his conscience troubled him. David said to the Lord, “I have committed a terrible sin by what I have done. Lord, please forgive me because I have acted very foolishly.”

You will remember and be ashamed. You will never again open your mouth because of your disgrace when I forgive you for everything you did, declares the Almighty Lord.’ ”

Then you will remember your evil ways and the bad things that you did, and you will hate yourselves for all these wicked and disgusting things.

Those who survive will escape to the mountains. They will moan like doves in the valleys. They will moan because of their sins.

Jesus replied to Peter, “I can guarantee this truth: Before a rooster crows tonight, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”

Jesus said to Peter, “I can guarantee this truth: Tonight, before a rooster crows twice, you will say three times that you don’t know me.”

But Peter denied it by saying, “I don’t know him, and I don’t understand what you’re talking about.” He went to the entrance. Then a rooster crowed.

Then Peter began to curse and swear with an oath, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”

But Peter said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just then, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.

Then Peter went outside and cried bitterly.

In fact, to be distressed in a godly way causes people to change the way they think and act and leads them to be saved. No one can regret that. But the distress that the world causes brings only death.
