Mark 14:1

It was two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the experts in Moses’ Teachings were looking for some underhanded way to arrest Jesus and to kill him.

They saw him from a distance. Before he reached them, they plotted to kill him.

You prefer evil to good. You prefer lying to speaking the truth. Selah

They plan to force him out of his high position. They are happy to lie. They bless with their mouths, but in their hearts they curse. Selah

Common people are only a whisper in the wind. Important people are only a delusion. When all of them are weighed on a scale, they amount to nothing. They are less than a whisper in the wind.

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,

Break it into pieces and pour olive oil over it. It is a grain offering.

The Pharisees left and plotted to kill Jesus.

So when you give to the poor, don’t announce it with trumpet fanfare. This is what hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets in order to be praised by people. I can guarantee this truth: That will be their only reward.

Killing the Passover lamb was customary on the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The disciples asked Jesus, “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you?”

However, they said, “We shouldn’t arrest him during the festival, or else there will be a riot among the people.”

So the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the council. They asked, “What are we doing? This man is performing a lot of miracles.

Before the Passover festival, Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go back to the Father. Jesus loved his own who were in the world, and he loved them to the end.

After capturing Peter, Herod had him thrown into prison with sixteen soldiers in squads of four to guard him. Herod wanted to bring Peter to trial in front of the people after Passover.
