Then, using this illustration, Jesus spoke to them. He said, “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, made a vat for the winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to vineyard workers and went on a trip.

It is like a man who went on a trip. As he left home, he put his servants in charge. He assigned work to each one and ordered the guard to be alert.

He used stories as illustrations to teach them many things. While he was teaching them, he said,

“The kingdom of heaven is like a man going on a trip. He called his servants and entrusted some money to them.

This is the Moses who was in the assembly in the desert. Our ancestors and the Messenger who spoke to him on Mount Sinai were there with him. Moses received life-giving messages to give to us,

He said, “A prince went to a distant country to be appointed king, and then he returned.

“After a few days, the younger son gathered his possessions and left for a country far away from home. There he wasted everything he had on a wild lifestyle.

Jesus answered, “Knowledge about the mysteries of God’s kingdom has been given ⌞directly⌟ to you. But it is given to others in stories. When they look, they don’t see, and when they hear, they don’t understand.

“What do you think about this? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go to work in the vineyard today.’

Then I said, “Oh no! Almighty Lord, no! The people already say that I’m only telling stories.”

I planted you like a choice grapevine from the very best seed. Now you have turned against me and have become a wild vine.

On that day, in every place where there were 1,000 vines (worth 1,000 pieces of silver), there will be briars and thorns.

They asked him, “Where do you want us to prepare it?”

Then he used stories as illustrations to tell them many things. He said, “Listen! A farmer went to plant seed.

“Listen to another illustration. A landowner planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, made a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to vineyard workers and went on a trip.

“When the grapes were getting ripe, he sent his servants to the workers to collect his share of the produce.

Jesus called them together and used this illustration: “How can Satan force out Satan?

So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Jesus told them, “Then I won’t tell you why I have the right to do these things.”
