As servants depend on their masters, as a maid depends on her mistress, so we depend on the Lord our God until he has pity on us.

“Listen to this, you priests! Pay attention, nation of Israel! Open your ears, royal family! This is my decision about you. You set traps at Mizpah and spread out nets on Mount Tabor.

“Respect your mother and father. Observe my days of rest as holy days. I am the Lord your God.

But the man wanted to justify his question. So he asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”

You know the commandments: Never commit adultery. Never murder. Never steal. Never give false testimony. Honor your father and your mother.”

Be merciful as your Father is merciful.

“Why do you call me Lord but don’t do what I tell you?

and in the desert.” There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as parents carry their children. He carried you wherever you went until you came to this place.

Is this how you repay the Lord, you foolish and silly people? Isn’t he your Father and Owner, who made you and formed you?

“Honor your father and your mother as the Lord your God has commanded you. Then you will live for a long time, and things will go well for you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

So if you call God your Father, live your time as temporary residents on earth in fear. He is the God who judges all people by what they have done, and he doesn’t play favorites.
