I am a laughingstock to my neighbors. I am one who calls on God and expects an answer. A man of integrity, a man who is righteous, has become a laughingstock.

Certainly, mockers are around me. My eyes are focused on their opposition.

All who see me make fun of me. Insults pour from their mouths. They shake their heads and say,

He was despised and rejected by people. He was a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering. He was despised like one from whom people turn their faces, and we didn’t consider him to be worth anything.

He said to them, “Leave! The girl is not dead. She’s sleeping.” But they laughed at him.

The Pharisees, who love money, heard all this and were making sarcastic remarks about him.

Everyone was crying and showing how sad they were. Jesus said, “Don’t cry! She’s not dead. She’s just sleeping.”

But Jesus took her hand and called out, “Child, get up!”

Jesus said, “Take the stone away.” Martha, the dead man’s sister, told Jesus, “Lord, there must already be a stench. He’s been dead for four days.”
