Everyone was crying and showing how sad they were. Jesus said, “Don’t cry! She’s not dead. She’s just sleeping.”

She died in Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in Canaan. Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to cry about her death.

The king was shaken ⌞by the news⌟. He went to the room above the gate and cried. “My son Absalom!” he said as he went. “My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died in your place! Absalom, my son, my son!”

To the Israelites, the glory of the Lord looked like a raging fire on top of the mountain.

“I will pour out the Spirit of blessing and mercy on David’s family and on those who live in Jerusalem. They will look at me, whom they have stabbed. Then they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son, and they will cry bitterly for him as one cries for a firstborn son.

‘We played music for you, but you didn’t dance. We sang a funeral song, but you didn’t show any sadness.’

A large crowd followed Jesus. The women in the crowd cried and sang funeral songs for him.

Crowds had gathered to see the sight. But when all of them saw what had happened, they cried and returned to the city.

Jesus went into the house. He allowed no one to go with him except Peter, John, James, and the child’s parents.

They laughed at him because they knew she was dead.

When Jesus heard the message, he said, “His sickness won’t result in death. Instead, this sickness will bring glory to God so that the Son of God will receive glory through it.”
