Then they come to you, as if they are still my people, and they sit down in front of you. They listen to what you say, but they don’t do it. They say that they love me, but in their hearts they chase dishonest profits.

So be careful to do everything they tell you. But don’t follow their example, because they don’t practice what they preach.

Whoever lives honestly will be safe. Whoever lives dishonestly will fall all at once.

I even went to each synagogue, punished believers, and forced them to curse ⌞the name of Jesus⌟. In my furious rage against them, I hunted them down in cities outside ⌞Jerusalem⌟.

I know that fierce wolves will come to you after I leave, and they won’t spare the flock.

Bring my enemies, who didn’t want me to be their king. Kill them in front of me.’ ”

Then many will lose faith. They will betray and hate each other.

Yet, I will not punish your daughters when they become prostitutes or your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery. The men go to prostitutes and offer sacrifices with temple prostitutes. These foolish people will be trampled.

He is like a person who dug down to bedrock to lay the foundation of his home. When a flood came, the floodwaters pushed against that house. But the house couldn’t be washed away because it had a good foundation.

When Jesus had finished everything he wanted to say to the people, he went to Capernaum.
