God's Word

The people stood there watching. But the rulers were making sarcastic remarks. They said, “He saved others. If he’s the Messiah that God has chosen, let him save himself!”

I can count all my bones. People stare. They gloat over me.

Yet, when I stumbled, they rejoiced and gathered together. They gathered together against me. Unknown attackers tore me apart without stopping.

You important people, how long are you going to insult my honor? How long are you going to love what is empty and seek what is a lie? Selah

They persecute the one you have struck, and they talk about the pain of those you have wounded.

They say, “God has abandoned him. Pursue him and grab him because there is no one to rescue him.”

Here is my servant, whom I support. Here is my chosen one, with whom I am pleased. I have put my Spirit on him. He will bring justice to the nations.

The Lord is the defender of Israel, its Holy One. This is what the Lord says to the despised one, to the one scorned by the nation, to the slave of rulers: Kings will see ⌞you⌟ and stand. Princes will see ⌞you⌟ and bow. The Lord is faithful. The Holy One of Israel has chosen you.

He was despised and rejected by people. He was a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering. He was despised like one from whom people turn their faces, and we didn’t consider him to be worth anything.

I have become a laughingstock to all my people. All day long ⌞they make fun of me⌟ with their songs.

“I will pour out the Spirit of blessing and mercy on David’s family and on those who live in Jerusalem. They will look at me, whom they have stabbed. Then they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son, and they will cry bitterly for him as one cries for a firstborn son.

“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, whom I love, and in whom I delight. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will announce justice to the nations.

Then a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love—my Son with whom I am pleased.”

The Pharisees, who love money, heard all this and were making sarcastic remarks about him.

Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people.

One of the criminals hanging there insulted Jesus by saying, “So you’re really the Messiah, are you? Well, save yourself and us!”

You are coming to Christ, the living stone who was rejected by humans but was chosen as precious by God.
