He freed Barabbas, who had been put in prison for rioting and murdering, because that’s what they wanted. But he let them do what they wanted to Jesus.

The Jews shouted again, “Don’t free this man! Free Barabbas!” (Barabbas was a political revolutionary.)

Then Pilate handed Jesus over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took Jesus.

You rejected the man who was holy and innocent. You asked to have a murderer given to you,

“Now, here is the king you have chosen, the one you asked for. See, the Lord has put a king over you.
