Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people.

Pilate said to them, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they shouted even louder, “Crucify him!”

The people stood there watching. But the rulers were making sarcastic remarks. They said, “He saved others. If he’s the Messiah that God has chosen, let him save himself!”

Our chief priests and rulers had him condemned to death and crucified.

Many rulers believed in Jesus. However, they wouldn’t admit it publicly because the Pharisees would have thrown them out of the synagogue.

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After Pilate said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I don’t find this man guilty of anything.

Pilate went outside again and told the Jews, “I’m bringing him out to you to let you know that I don’t find this man guilty of anything.”

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish council.

But look at this! He’s speaking in public, and no one is saying anything to him! Can it be that the rulers really know that this man is the Messiah?

Has any ruler or any Pharisee believed in him?

The people who live in Jerusalem and their rulers didn’t know who Jesus was. They didn’t understand the prophets’ messages, which are read every day of rest—a holy day. So they condemned Jesus and fulfilled what the prophets had said.

“And now, brothers, I know that like your rulers you didn’t know what you were doing.

The next day the Jewish rulers, the leaders, and the experts in Moses’ Teachings met in Jerusalem.

Then Peter, because he was filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and leaders of the people,
