When you pray for things, you don’t get them because you want them for the wrong reason—for your own pleasure.

I said, ‘I’ve lost my strength ⌞to live⌟ and my hope in the Lord.’

When I was panic-stricken, I said, “I have been cut off from your sight.” But you heard my pleas for mercy when I cried out to you for help.

We consider those who endure to be blessed. You have heard about Job’s endurance. You saw that the Lord ended Job’s suffering because the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Jesus used this illustration with his disciples to show them that they need to pray all the time and never give up.

Even when I cry and call for help, he shuts out my prayer.

Give to everyone who asks you for something. Don’t turn anyone away who wants to borrow something from you.

“So I tell you to ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you.

“If your child asks you, his father, for a fish, would you give him a snake instead?
