He told them, “The harvest is large, but the workers are few. So ask the Lord who gives this harvest to send workers to harvest his crops.

So Elijah told the people, “I’m the only surviving prophet of the Lord, but there are 450 prophets of Baal.

The Lord gives instructions. The women who announce the good news are a large army.

I will give you shepherds after my own heart. They will be shepherds who feed you with knowledge and insight.

“How horrible it will be for the foolish shepherd who abandoned the sheep. A sword will strike his arm and his right eye. His arm will be completely withered. His right eye will be completely blind.”

Those who buy them will kill them and go unpunished. Those who sell them will say, “Praise the Lord! I’ve become rich!” Even their own shepherds will have no pity on them.

I’ll come down and speak with you there. I’ll take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will help you take care of the people. You won’t have to take care of the people alone.

But Moses asked him, “Do you think you need to stand up for me? I wish all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them.”

“The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at daybreak to hire workers for his vineyard.

It is like a man who went on a trip. As he left home, he put his servants in charge. He assigned work to each one and ordered the guard to be alert.

Then Jesus said to them, “So wherever you go in the world, tell everyone the Good News.

The disciples spread ⌞the Good News⌟ everywhere. The Lord worked with them. He confirmed his word by the miraculous signs that accompanied it.

Jesus called the twelve apostles together and gave them power and authority over every demon and power and authority to cure diseases.

Some of the believers who were scattered by the trouble that broke out following Stephen’s death went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and the city of Antioch. They spoke God’s word only to Jewish people.

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set Barnabas and Saul apart for me. I want them to do the work for which I called them.”

After Barnabas and Saul were sent by the Holy Spirit, they went to the city of Seleucia and from there sailed to the island of Cyprus.

Pay attention to yourselves and to the entire flock in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to be shepherds for God’s church which he acquired with his own blood.

“But the Lord told me, ‘Go! I’ll send you on a mission. You’ll go far away to people who aren’t Jewish.’ ”

The believers who were scattered went from place to place, where they spread the word.

In the church God has appointed first apostles, next prophets, third teachers, then those who perform miracles, then those who have the gift of healing, then those who help others, those who are managers, and those who can speak in a number of languages.

But God’s kindness  made me what I am, and that kindness was not wasted on me. Instead, I worked harder than all the others. It was not I who did it, but God’s kindness was with me.

Since we are God’s coworkers, we urge you not to let God’s kindness  be wasted on you.

Everyone else looks after his own interests, not after those of Jesus Christ.

I feel that I must send Epaphroditus—my brother, coworker, and fellow soldier—back to you. You sent him as your personal representative to help me in my need.

He risked his life and almost died for the work of Christ in order to make up for the help you couldn’t give me.

I work hard and struggle to do this while his mighty power works in me.

Epaphras, a servant of Christ Jesus from your city, greets you. He always prays intensely for you. He prays that you will continue to be mature and completely convinced of everything that God wants.

You remember, brothers and sisters, our work and what we did to earn a living. We worked night and day so that we could bring you the Good News of God without being a burden to any of you.

Brothers and sisters, we ask you to show your appreciation for those leaders who work among you and instruct you.

Finally, brothers and sisters, pray that we spread the Lord’s word rapidly and that it will be honored the way it was among you.

Certainly, we work hard and struggle to live a godly life, because we place our confidence in the living God. He is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

But you must keep a clear head in everything. Endure suffering. Do the work of a missionary. Devote yourself completely to your work.

But Christ is a faithful son in charge of God’s household. We are his household if we continue to have courage and to be proud of the confidence we have.
