I will scatter you among the nations. War will follow you. Your country will be in ruins. Your cities will be deserted.

“They may sin against you. (No one is sinless.) You may become angry with them and hand them over to an enemy who takes them to ⌞another⌟ country as captives, ⌞whether it is⌟ far or near.

He burned down the Lord’s temple, the royal palace, and all the houses in Jerusalem. Every important building was burned down.

But if you and your descendants turn away from me and abandon my commands and laws that I gave you, and follow and serve other gods and worship them,

A lion has come out of its lair. A destroyer of nations has set out. He has left his place to destroy your land. Your cities will be ruined, and no one will live in them.

In the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, I will banish the sounds of joy and happiness and the sounds of brides and grooms, because the land will be a wasteland.”

“Then the few who remain from these wicked people will want to die rather than live where I will scatter them,” declares the Lord of Armies.

I will scatter them among nations that they and their ancestors haven’t heard of. I will send armies after them until I’ve wiped them out.

“Look how deserted Jerusalem is! Once the city was crowded with people. Once it was important among the nations. Now it is a widow. Once it was a princess among the provinces. Now it does forced labor.

“Judah has been exiled after ⌞much⌟ suffering and harsh treatment. Its ⌞people⌟ live among the nations; they find no rest. Those who chased them caught up with them in places where there was no way out.

‘Get away! You’re unclean,’  people yelled at them. ‘Get away! Get away! Don’t touch anyone.’ When they fled and wandered around, the people of the nations said, ‘They can’t stay here any longer.’

The Lord himself has scattered them. He will no longer look favorably on them. They no longer respected the priests, nor did they honor their older leaders.”

The cities where people live will be destroyed, and the country will become a wasteland. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’ ”

I raised my hand and swore an oath to them in the desert. I promised to scatter them among the nations and force them into other countries.

I will scatter you among the nations and force you into other countries. I will put an end to your uncleanness.

When the blockade is over, burn one-third of your hair in a fire in the middle of the city. Take another third, and cut it up with a blade around the city. Then scatter the remaining third to the wind, and I will draw a sword and go after it.

Even if they escape without being destroyed, Egypt will capture them and Memphis will bury them. Weeds will grow over their silver treasures. Thorns will grow over their tents.

Even if they go into exile ahead of their enemies, I will command a sword to kill them. I will keep my eyes on them so that I can bring disaster on them and not help them.

I used a windstorm to scatter them among all the nations, nations they hadn’t even heard of. They left behind a land so ruined that no one is able to travel through it. They have turned a pleasant land into a wasteland.”

Swords will cut them down, and they will be carried off into all nations as prisoners. Nations will trample Jerusalem until the times allowed for the nations ⌞to do this⌟ are over.

The Lord will scatter you among the people of the world, and only a few of you will be left among the nations where the Lord will force you to live.
