The Jews replied to Jesus, “Aren’t we right when we say that you’re a Samaritan and that you’re possessed by a demon?”

The Lord is the defender of Israel, its Holy One. This is what the Lord says to the despised one, to the one scorned by the nation, to the slave of rulers: Kings will see ⌞you⌟ and stand. Princes will see ⌞you⌟ and bow. The Lord is faithful. The Holy One of Israel has chosen you.

He was despised and rejected by people. He was a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering. He was despised like one from whom people turn their faces, and we didn’t consider him to be worth anything.

It is enough for a student to become like his teacher and a slave like his owner. If they have called the owner of the house Beelzebul, they will certainly call the family members the same name.

Jesus sent these twelve out with the following instructions: “Don’t go among people who are not Jewish or into any Samaritan city.

“John came neither eating nor drinking, and people say, ‘There’s a demon in him!’

When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man can force demons out of people only with the help of Beelzebul, the ruler of demons.”

So I can guarantee that people will be forgiven for any sin or cursing. However, cursing the Spirit will not be forgiven.

You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

This was John’s answer when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

Many of them said, “He’s possessed by a demon! He’s crazy! Why do you listen to him?”

You call me teacher and Lord, and you’re right because that’s what I am.

The Samaritan woman asked him, “How can a Jewish man like you ask a Samaritan woman like me for a drink of water?” (Jews, of course, don’t associate with Samaritans.)

The crowd answered, “You’re possessed by a demon! Who wants to kill you?”

Then the Jews asked, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means when he says, ‘You can’t go where I’m going’?”

The Jews told Jesus, “Now we know that you’re possessed by a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, ‘Whoever does what I say will never taste death.’

Christ did not think only of himself. Rather, as Scripture says, “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”

So we must go to him outside the camp and endure the insults he endured.

You believe that there is one God. That’s fine! The demons also believe that, and they tremble with fear.
