On the last and most important day of the festival, Jesus was standing ⌞in the temple courtyard⌟. He said loudly, “Whoever is thirsty must come to me to drink.

Day by day, from the first day of the festival to the last day, Ezra continued to read from the Book of God’s Teachings. The people celebrated the festival for seven days, and on the eighth day, they had a closing festival assembly in accordance with the regulations.

I stretch out my hands to you in prayer. Like parched land, my soul thirsts for you. Selah

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When may I come to see God’s face?

O God, you are my God. At dawn I search for you. My soul thirsts for you. My body longs for you in a dry, parched land where there is no water.

Wisdom sings her song in the streets. In the public squares she raises her voice.

Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise its voice?

I love those who love me. Those eagerly looking for me will find me.

near the gates to the city. At the entrance ⌞wisdom⌟ sings its song,

She has sent out her servant girls. She calls from the highest places in the city,

My bride, my sister, I will come to my garden. I will gather my myrrh with my spice. I will eat my honeycomb with my honey. I will drink my wine with my milk. Eat, my friends! Drink and become intoxicated with expressions of love!

With joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation.

“Speak tenderly to Jerusalem and announce to it that its time of hard labor is over and its wrongs have been paid for. It has received from the Lord double for all its sins.”

A voice called, “Call out!” I asked, “What should I call out?” “Call out: All people are like grass, and all their beauty is like a flower in the field.

I will pour water on thirsty ground and rain on dry land. I will pour my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on your descendants.

“Listen! Whoever is thirsty, come to the water! Whoever has no money can come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk. You don’t have to pay; it’s free!

Open your ears, and come to me! Listen so that you may live! I will make an everlasting promise  to you— the blessings I promised to David.

Cry aloud! Don’t hold back! Raise your voice like a ram’s horn. Tell my people about their rebellion and the descendants of Jacob about their sins.

The Lord is my strength and my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. Nations come to you from the most distant parts of the world and say, “Our ancestors have inherited lies, worthless and unprofitable gods.”

“Go and announce to Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says: I remember the unfailing loyalty of your youth, the love you had for me as a bride. I remember how you followed me into the desert, into a land that couldn’t be farmed.

Wherever the river flows, there will be many fish and animals. The river will make the water in the Dead Sea fresh. Wherever the river flows, it will bring life.

For seven consecutive days bring a sacrifice by fire to the Lord. On the eighth day there will be a holy assembly. Bring the Lord a sacrifice by fire. This is the last festival of the year. Don’t do any regular work.

“However, on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered what the land produces, celebrate the Lord’s festival for seven days. The first and the eighth days will be worship festivals.

The voice of the Lord calls out to the city. (The fear of your name is wisdom.) “Listen, you tribe assembled in the city.

The Lord of Armies will defend them. They will destroy and trample the stones used in slings. They will drink and shout as if they were drunk. They will be filled like a sacrificial bowl ⌞used for sprinkling⌟ the corners of the altar.

“On the eighth day you must hold a religious assembly. You must not do any daily work.

“Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.

Isaiah the prophet spoke about this man when he said, “A voice cries out in the desert: ‘Prepare the way for the Lord! Make his paths straight!’ ”

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for God’s approval. They will be satisfied.

John said, “I’m a voice crying out in the desert, ‘Make the way for the Lord straight,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

Jesus answered him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me.

Jesus replied to her, “If you only knew what God’s gift is and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked him for a drink. He would have given you living water.”

The woman said to him, “Sir, you don’t have anything to use to get water, and the well is deep. So where are you going to get this living water?

But those who drink the water that I will give them will never become thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give them will become in them a spring that gushes up to eternal life.”

Yet, you don’t want to come to me to get ⌞eternal⌟ life.

Jesus told them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never become hungry, and whoever believes in me will never become thirsty.

Everyone whom the Father gives me will come to me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to me.

My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

Then, while Jesus was teaching in the temple courtyard, he said loudly, “You know me, and you know where I come from. I didn’t decide to come on my own. The one who sent me is true. He’s the one you don’t know.

You cannot drink the Lord’s cup and the cup of demons. You cannot participate at the table of the Lord and at the table of demons.

and all of them drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from the spiritual rock that went with them, and that rock was Christ.

When supper was over, he did the same with the cup. He said, “This cup is the new promise  made with my blood. Every time you drink from it, do it to remember me.”

By one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether we are Jewish or Greek, slave or free, God gave all of us one Spirit to drink.

Don’t get drunk on wine, which leads to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Spirit

He said to me, “It has happened! I am the A and the Z, the beginning and the end. I will give a drink from the fountain filled with the water of life to anyone who is thirsty. It won’t cost anything.

The angel showed me a river filled with the water of life, as clear as crystal. It was flowing from the throne of God and the lamb.

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let those who hear this say, “Come!” Let those who are thirsty come! Let those who want the water of life take it as a gift.
