Then, while Jesus was teaching in the temple courtyard, he said loudly, “You know me, and you know where I come from. I didn’t decide to come on my own. The one who sent me is true. He’s the one you don’t know.

Those who know your name trust you, O Lord, because you have never deserted those who seek your help.

After doing everything the Lord’s Teachings required, Joseph and Mary returned to their hometown of Nazareth in Galilee.

So Joseph went from Nazareth, a city in Galilee, to a Judean city called Bethlehem. Joseph, a descendant of King David, went to Bethlehem because David had been born there.

Then he returned with them to Nazareth and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart.

Nathanael said to Philip, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Philip told him, “Come and see!”

why do you say that I’m dishonoring God because I said, ‘I’m the Son of God’? God set me apart for this holy purpose and has sent me into the world.

I have not spoken on my own. Instead, the Father who sent me told me what I should say and how I should say it.

Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I’m telling you doesn’t come from me. The Father, who lives in me, does what he wants.

However, I want the world to know that I love the Father and that I am doing exactly what the Father has commanded me to do. Get up! We have to leave.”

They will do these things to you because they haven’t known the Father or me.

Father, you have done what is right and the world didn’t know you. Yet, I knew you, and these ⌞disciples⌟ have known that you sent me.

This is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

He came to Jesus one night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that God has sent you as a teacher. No one can perform the miracles you perform unless God is with him.”

I have accepted what that person said, and I have affirmed that God is truthful.

Someone else testifies on my behalf, and I know that what he says about me is true.

I have come with the authority my Father has given me, but you don’t accept me. If someone else comes with his own authority, you will accept him.

They asked, “Isn’t this man Jesus, Joseph’s son? Don’t we know his father and mother? How can he say now, ‘I came from heaven’?”

When the festival was half over, Jesus went to the temple courtyard and began to teach.

Jesus replied to them, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is true because I know where I came from and where I’m going. However, you don’t know where I came from or where I’m going.

Even if I do judge, my judgment is valid because I don’t make it on my own. I make my judgment with the Father who sent me.

The Pharisees asked him, “Where is your father?” Jesus replied, “You don’t know me or my Father. If you knew me, you would also know my Father.”

I have a lot I could say about you and a lot I could condemn you for. But the one who sent me is true. So I tell the world exactly what he has told me.”

Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me. After all, I’m here, and I came from God. I didn’t come on my own. Instead, God sent me.

We know that God spoke to Moses, but we don’t know where this man came from.”

As I was going through your city and looking closely at the objects you worship, I noticed an altar with this written on it: ‘To an unknown god.’ I’m telling you about the unknown god you worship.

And because they thought it was worthless to acknowledge God, God allowed their own immoral minds to control them. So they do these indecent things.

That would be unthinkable! God is honest, and everyone else is a liar, as Scripture says, “So you hand down justice when you speak, and you win your case in court.”

You can depend on God. Our message to you isn’t false; it’s true.

We are his servants because the same God who said that light should shine out of darkness has given us light. For that reason we bring to light the knowledge about God’s glory which shines from Christ’s face.

My message is based on the confidence of eternal life. God, who never lies, promised this eternal life before the world began.

God did this so that we would be encouraged. God cannot lie when he takes an oath or makes a promise. These two things can never be changed. Those of us who have taken refuge in him hold on to the confidence we have been given.

Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony of God in them. Those who don’t believe God have made God a liar. They haven’t believed the testimony that God has given about his Son.

Eli’s sons, ⌞Hophni and Phinehas,⌟ were good-for-nothing priests; they had no faith in the Lord.
