But look at this! He’s speaking in public, and no one is saying anything to him! Can it be that the rulers really know that this man is the Messiah?

A wicked person flees when no one is chasing him, but righteous people are as bold as lions.

He will not be discouraged or crushed until he has set up justice on the earth. The coastlands will wait for his teachings.

They sent their disciples to him along with Herod’s followers. They said to him, “Teacher, we know that you tell the truth and that you teach the truth about the way of God. You don’t favor individuals because of who they are.

Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people.

But the Pharisees and the experts in Moses’ Teachings rejected God’s plan for them. They refused to be baptized.

Many rulers believed in Jesus. However, they wouldn’t admit it publicly because the Pharisees would have thrown them out of the synagogue.

Jesus answered him, “I have spoken publicly for everyone to hear. I have always taught in synagogues or in the temple courtyard, where all the Jews gather. I haven’t said anything in secret.

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish council.

“Come with me, and meet a man who told me everything I’ve ever done. Could he be the Messiah?”

Some of the people who lived in Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this the man they want to kill?

However, many people in the crowd believed in him. They asked, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more miracles than this man has?”

Has any ruler or any Pharisee believed in him?

(His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. The Jews had already agreed to put anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Christ out of the synagogue.

After they found out that Peter and John had no education or special training, they were surprised to see how boldly they spoke. They realized that these men had been with Jesus.

So through my being in prison, the Lord has given most of our brothers and sisters confidence to speak God’s word more boldly and fearlessly than ever.
