Like wild donkeys in the desert, poor people go out to do their work, looking for food. The plains provide food for their children.

It laughs at the noise of the city and doesn’t ⌞even⌟ listen to the shouting of its master.

and fertile ground into a layer of salt because of the wickedness of the people living there.

Wild donkeys stand on the bare hills. They sniff the air like jackals. Their eyesight fails because they have no green plants.

He will be like a bush in the wilderness. He will not see when something good comes. He will live in the dry places in the desert, in a salty land where no one can live.

You are like a wild donkey that is used to the desert, sniffing the wind while in heat. All who look for you won’t get tired. They will find you during your monthly period.

But the water in the swamps and marshes won’t become fresh. It will remain salty.

“The people of Israel went to Assyria. They were like wild donkeys wandering off alone. The people of Ephraim sold themselves to their lovers.

They will see all the soil poisoned with sulfur and salt. Nothing will be planted. Nothing will be growing. There will be no plants in sight. It will be as desolate as Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, cities the Lord destroyed in fierce anger.
