The king said to his officers, “Don’t you know that today a leader, a great man, has fallen in Israel?

He makes trusted advisers unable to speak and takes away the good judgment of respected leaders.

“That is why I say, ‘Listen to me! Let me tell you what I know.’

I thought, ‘Age should speak, and experience should teach wisdom.’

Haven’t the ropes of their tent been loosened? Won’t they die without wisdom?

I have more wisdom than those with many years of experience, because I have obeyed your guiding principles.

From your guiding principles I gain understanding. That is why I hate every path that leads to lying.

A young man who is poor and wise is better than an old, foolish king who won’t take advice any longer.
