Sheol is naked in God’s presence, and Abaddon has no clothing.
⌞God’s wisdom is⌟ higher than heaven. What can you do? It is deeper than ⌞the depths⌟ of hell. What can you know?
Decay and Death say, ‘We’ve heard a rumor about it.’
Instead of being alive, I would now be quietly lying down. I would now be sleeping peacefully.
It would be a fire that burns even in Abaddon. It would uproot my entire harvest.
Have the gateways to death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gateways to total darkness?
Who can confront me that I should repay him? Everything under heaven belongs to me!
He moves mountains without their knowing it, and he topples them in his anger.
If I say, “Let the darkness hide me and let the light around me turn into night,”
If I go up to heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in hell, you are there.
Will you perform miracles for those who are dead? Will the spirits of the dead rise and give thanks to you? Selah
If Sheol and Abaddon lie open in front of the Lord how much more the human heart!
Hell and decay are never satisfied, and a person’s eyes are never satisfied.
Sheol below wakes up to meet you when you come. It wakes up the ghosts of the dead, all who were leaders on earth. It raises all who were kings of the nations from their thrones.
He reveals deeply hidden things. He knows what is in the dark, and light lives with him.
Even if they dig their way into Sheol, my hand will take them from there. Even if they go up to heaven, I will bring them down from there.
No creature can hide from God. Everything is uncovered and exposed for him to see. We must answer to him.
The king who ruled them was the angel from the bottomless pit. In Hebrew he is called Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.
