You send widows away empty-handed, and the arms of orphans are broken.

These men take advantage of childless women. These men show no kindness to widows.

They drive away the orphan’s donkey. They take the widow’s ox as security for a loan.

If I have shaken my fist at an orphan because I knew that others would back me up in court,

Would you also throw dice for an orphan? Would you buy and sell your friend?

Break the arm of the wicked and evil person. Punish his wickedness until you find no more.

The arms of wicked people will be broken, but the Lord continues to support righteous people.

They kill widows and foreigners, and they murder orphans.

Learn to do good. Seek justice. Arrest oppressors. Defend orphans. Plead the case of widows.”

Your rulers are rebels, friends with thieves. They all love bribes and run after gifts. They never defend orphans. They don’t notice the widows’ pleas.

They deprive the poor of justice. They take away the rights of the needy among my people. They prey on widows and rob orphans.

“Moab’s horn is cut off, and its arm is broken,” declares the Lord.

People in you hate their fathers and mothers. They oppress foreigners in you. They oppress orphans and widows in you.

“This is what the Almighty Lord says: I’m against Pharaoh, king of Egypt. I will break both his arms, the healthy one and the broken one. I will make the sword fall from his hand.

“I will come to judge you. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers, lying witnesses, and those who cheat workers out of their wages and oppress widows and orphans. I will also testify against those who deprive foreigners of their rights. None of them fear me,” says the Lord of Armies.

“Whoever deprives foreigners, orphans, or widows of justice will be cursed.” Then all the people will say amen.
