I wish you would keep silent. For you, that would be wisdom.

Decent people are shocked by this, and it stirs up the innocent against godless people.

When they saw him from a distance, they didn’t even recognize him. They cried out loud and wept, and each of them tore his own clothes in grief. They threw dust on their heads.

Princes held back ⌞their⌟ words and put their hands over their mouths.

“I’m so insignificant. How can I answer you? I will put my hand over my mouth.

I remained speechless. I did not open my mouth because you are the one who has done this.

If you are such a godless fool as to honor yourself, or if you scheme, you had better put your hand over your mouth.

He will cleanse many nations ⌞with his blood⌟. Kings will shut their mouths because of him. They will see things that they had never been told. They will understand things that they had never heard.

That is why a wise person remains silent at such times, because those times are so evil.

Nations will see this and be ashamed in spite of all their strength. They will put their hands over their mouths. Their ears will become deaf.

God’s riches, wisdom, and knowledge are so deep that it is impossible to explain his decisions or to understand his ways.

They told him, “Keep quiet! Don’t say a word! Come with us and be our father and priest. Is it better for you to be a priest for one man’s house or for a tribe in Israel and its families?”
