Why do you think of us as cattle? Why are we considered stupid in your eyes?

“But now, all of you, come and try again! I won’t find one wise man among you.

You have closed their minds so that they cannot understand. That is why you will not honor them.

“How long before your words will end? Think it through, and then we’ll talk.

Why do you rip yourself apart in anger? Should the earth be abandoned for your sake or a boulder be dislodged?

I was stupid, and I did not understand. I was like a dumb animal in your presence.

I thought to myself, “God is going to test humans in order to show them that they are ⌞like⌟ animals.”

Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other.

Forty lashes may be given, but no more. If an Israelite were given more than that, he would be publicly humiliated.
