How terrible it will be for me if I’m guilty! Even if I’m righteous, I dare not lift up my head. I am filled with disgrace while I look on my misery.

You know I’m not guilty, but there is no one to rescue me from your hands.

When I remember it, I’m terrified, and shuddering seizes my body.

So I said, “Oh, no! I’m doomed. Every word that passes through my lips is sinful. I live among people with sinful lips. I have seen the king, the Lord of Armies!”

“O Lord, see the distress I’m in! My stomach is churning. My heart is pounding because I’ve been very bitter. In the streets swords kill my children. Inside the houses it’s like death.

Then you will again see the difference between righteous people and wicked people, between the one who serves God and the one who doesn’t serve him.

That’s the way it is with you. When you’ve done everything you’re ordered to do, say, ‘We’re worthless servants. We’ve only done our duty.’ ”
