“Announce this among the nations, and spread the news. Raise a flag, and announce it. Don’t hide anything. Say, ‘Babylon will be captured. Bel will be put to shame. Marduk will be filled with terror. Babylon’s statues will be put to shame. Its idols will be filled with terror.’

Everyone will be afraid and conclude, “This is an act of God!” They will learn from what he has done.

Tell people about his glory. Tell all the nations about his miracles.

Everyone who worships idols and brags about false gods will be put to shame. All the gods will bow to him.

At that time you will say, “Praise the Lord. Call on his name. Make his deeds known among the nations. Make them remember that his name is highly honored.

Raise a banner on the bare mountaintop. Call loudly to them. Signal them with your hand to enter the nobles’ gates.

Look! Here come chariots and horsemen in pairs.” Then he said, “Babylon has fallen! It has fallen! All the idols they worship lie shattered on the ground.”

They have thrown the gods from these countries into fires because these gods aren’t real gods. They’re only wooden and stone statues made by human hands. So the Assyrians have destroyed them.

At that time Baladan’s son, King Merodach Baladan of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah. He had heard that Hezekiah had been sick and had recovered.

The god Bel bows down; the god Nebo stoops low. Their statues are seated on animals and cattle. The gods that you carry are burdens, a load for weary people.

Leave Babylon; flee from the Babylonians! Shout for joy as you tell it and announce it. Shout it out to the ends of the earth. Say that the Lord has reclaimed his servant Jacob.

You’ve heard these words. Now look at all this. Won’t you admit it? From now on I will reveal to you new things, hidden things that you do not know.

Tell them this: These gods will disappear from the earth and from under heaven because they didn’t make heaven and earth.

They are worthless jokes. When they are punished, they disappear.

“You nations, listen to the Lord’s word. Tell it to the distant islands. Say, ‘The one who scattered the people of Israel will gather them and watch over them as a shepherd watches over his flock.’

Warn the nations about these things. Bring them to the attention of Jerusalem. “Hostile troops are coming from a distant country. They are shouting battle cries against the cities of Judah.

Raise the flag to signal people to go to Zion. Take cover! Don’t just stand there! I’m bringing disaster and widespread destruction from the north.

“Tell this in Egypt; announce this in Migdol. Make it known in Memphis and in Tahpanhes. Say, ‘Take your positions, and get ready. Swords will kill those around you.’

The earth will quake at the news that Babylon has been captured. Its cry will be heard among the nations.”

Raise your battle flag in front of the walls of Babylon. Strengthen the guards. Station watchmen. Prepare ambushes. The Lord will carry out his plans against the people who live in Babylon.

Raise your battle flag throughout the world. Blow the ram’s horn among the nations. Prepare nations to attack Babylon. Tell the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz to attack it. Appoint a commander to lead the attack. Bring up horses like a swarm of locusts.

Runners run to meet runners. Messengers follow messengers. They inform the king of Babylon that his entire city is captured.

I will punish Bel in Babylon. I will make Bel spit out everything that it has swallowed. Nations will no longer stream to Babylon, and its walls will fall.

That is why the days are coming when I will punish Babylon’s idols. The whole country will be put to shame, and all its soldiers will lie dead.

“That is why the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will punish their idols, and those who are wounded will moan everywhere in the land.

Babylon will suddenly fall and be shattered. Cry for it. Bring medicine for its pain. Maybe it can be healed.

On the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the imprisonment of King Jehoiakin of Judah, King Evil Merodach of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, freed King Jehoiakin of Judah and released him from prison.

Listen, you nations, and learn, you witnesses, what will happen to them.

The Lord handed King Jehoiakim of Judah and some utensils from God’s temple over to Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar took the utensils to the temple of his god in Babylonia and put them in the temple treasury.

Nebuchadnezzar asked them, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you don’t honor my gods or worship the gold statue that I set up?

The Lord will terrify them, because he will make all the gods of the earth waste away. So every person from every coast and nation will bow to him.

He cried out in a powerful voice, “Fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen! She has become a home for demons. She is a prison for every evil spirit, every unclean  bird, and every unclean and hated beast.
