“Moab has lived securely ever since it was young. Its people are like wine left to settle in a jar. They aren’t poured from one jar to another. They haven’t gone into captivity. That is why its flavor has remained the same, and its aroma hasn’t changed.

We have suffered more than our share of ridicule from those who are carefree. We have suffered more than our share of contempt from those who are arrogant.

God will listen. The one who has sat enthroned from the beginning will deal with them. Selah They never change. They never fear God.

“Gullible people kill themselves because of their turning away. Fools destroy themselves because of their indifference.

We’ve heard of the arrogance of Moab’s people. They are very arrogant. We’ve heard of their boasting, arrogance, and conceit, but their boasts aren’t true.

The earth will be completely laid waste and stripped because the Lord has spoken.

On this mountain the Lord of Armies will prepare for all people a feast with the best foods, a banquet with aged wines, with the best foods and the finest wines.

I spoke to you when you were prosperous, but you said that you wouldn’t listen. This is how you’ve been ever since you were young. You don’t listen to me.

That is why the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will send people to pour Moab out of its jars and to smash its pitchers.

“We have heard about the arrogance of Moab’s people. They are very arrogant. They are very arrogant, conceited, and boastful.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has devoured us. He has thrown us into confusion. He has turned us into empty jars. He has swallowed us like a monster. He has filled his belly with our delicacies. Then he spit us out.

Nineveh is destroyed, deserted, demolished. Hearts are melting. Knees are knocking. Every stomach becomes upset. Every face turns pale.

The Lord will restore Jacob’s glory like Israel’s glory, although enemies have looted it and have destroyed its vines.

“At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who are satisfied with their hardened lifestyle, who think that the Lord won’t do anything—good or bad.

and I’m very angry with the nations who think they are at ease. I was only a little angry, but they made things worse.
