I’m going to live in Mizpah and represent you when the Babylonians come to us. Gather grapes, summer fruit, and olive oil, and put them in storage jars. Live in the cities you have taken over.”

When David had gone over the top ⌞of the Mount of Olives⌟, Ziba, Mephibosheth’s servant, met him with a pair of saddled donkeys. They were loaded with 200 loaves of bread, 100 bunches of raisins, 100 pieces of ripened fruit, and a full wineskin.

How blessed your men must be! How blessed these servants of yours must be because they are always stationed in front of you, listening to your wisdom!

Do you see a person who is efficient in his work? He will serve kings. He will not serve unknown people.

But Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left some poor people who had nothing in the land of Judah. At that time he gave them vineyards and farms.

So all the Jews returned from all the places where they had been scattered. They came to Judah and to Gedaliah at Mizpah. They gathered a large harvest of grapes and summer fruit.

Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, at Mizpah and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.

Johanan (son of Kareah) and all the army commanders took all the people who were left in Judah to Egypt. These were all the people who had come back to Judah from the places where they had been scattered.

I will cry for you as Jazer cries. I will cry for you, grapevines of Sibmah. Your branches ⌞once⌟ spread as far as the sea, and they reached as far as the sea of Jazer. The destroyer will destroy your ripened fruits and your grapes.

Poor me! I am like those gathering summer fruit, like those picking grapes. But there aren’t any grapes to eat or any ripened figs that I crave.

Be alert at all times. Pray so that you have the power to escape everything that is about to happen and to stand in front of the Son of Man.”

But your assistant Joshua, son of Nun, will go there. Encourage him, because he will help Israel take possession of the land.

After you have gathered the grain from your threshing floor  and made your wine, celebrate the Festival of Booths for seven days.
