Then King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah, and the king asked him privately in the palace, “Is there any message from the Lord?” Jeremiah answered, “Yes! There is a message from the Lord. You will be handed over to the king of Babylon.”

When he came to the king, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against Ramoth in Gilead or not?” Micaiah said to him, “Attack and you will win. The Lord will hand it over to you.”

The king asked him, “How many times must I make you take an oath in the Lord’s name to tell me nothing but the truth?”

They slaughtered Zedekiah’s sons as he watched, and then they blinded Zedekiah. They put him in bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.

“But this is what the Lord says about the bad figs that are so bad that they can’t be eaten. The Lord says, ‘Like these bad figs, I will abandon King Zedekiah of Judah, his princes, the remaining few in Jerusalem who stayed behind in this land, and those who are living in Egypt.

There will be no place for the shepherds to flee, no escape for the leaders of the flock.

King Zedekiah sent Jehucal (son of Shelemiah) and the priest Zephaniah (son of Maaseiah) to the prophet Jeremiah. They asked him, “Please pray to the Lord our God for us.”

King Zedekiah answered, “He’s in your hands. I won’t do anything to stop you.”

The Babylonian army pursued King Zedekiah and caught up with him in the plain of Jericho. His entire army had deserted him.

One disaster will happen after another. One rumor will follow another. People will ask for a vision from a prophet. The teachings of priests and the advice of leaders will disappear.

He came to Balak and found him standing beside his burnt offering with the princes of Moab. Balak asked him, “What did the Lord say?”

because Herod was afraid of John. Herod knew that John was a fair and holy man, so he protected him. When he listened to John, he would become very disturbed, and yet he liked to listen to him.
