God's Word

The Lord provides the sun to be a light during the day. He orders the moon and stars to be lights during the night. He stirs up the sea so that its waves roar. His name is the Lord of Armies. This is what the Lord says:

Do you know the laws of the sky or make them rule the earth?

He angrily commanded the Red Sea, and it dried up. He led them through deep water as though it were a desert.

O Lord, your word is established in heaven forever.

All things continue to stand today because of your regulations, since they are all your servants.

He set them in their places forever and ever. He made it a law that no one can break.

May his name endure forever. May his name continue as long as the sun ⌞shines⌟. May all nations be blessed through him and call him blessed.

May they fear you as long as the sun and moon ⌞shine⌟— throughout every generation.

You stirred up the sea with your own strength. You smashed the heads of sea monsters in the water.

The day and the night are yours. You set the moon and the sun in their places.

He divided the sea and led them through it. He made the waters stand up like a wall.

I said, “Your mercy will last forever. Your faithfulness stands firm in the heavens.”

You call yourselves ⌞citizens⌟ of the holy city. You depend on the God of Israel. His name is the Lord of Armies.

I am the Lord your God who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar. My name is the Lord of Armies.

Your husband is your maker. His name is the Lord of Armies. Your defender is the Holy One of Israel. He is called the God of the whole earth.

Where is the one who sent his powerful arm to support the right hand of Moses? Where is the one who divided the water in front of them to make an everlasting name for himself?

Jacob’s God isn’t like them. He made everything, and Israel is the tribe that belongs to him. His name is the Lord of Armies.

You show mercy to thousands of generations. However, you punish children for the wickedness of their parents. You, God, are great and mighty. Your name is the Lord of Armies.

“This is what the Lord says: Suppose you could break my arrangement  with day and night so that they wouldn’t come at their proper time.

“This is what the Lord says: Suppose I hadn’t made an arrangement with day and night or made laws for heaven and earth.

Then I would reject the descendants of Jacob and of my servant David. I would not let any of David’s descendants rule the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. However, I will restore their fortunes and love them.”

“As I live,” declares the king, whose name is the Lord of Armies, “someone who is like Mount Tabor among the mountains will come. Someone who is like Mount Carmel by the sea will come.

Don’t you fear me?” asks the Lord. “Don’t you tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, a permanent barrier that it cannot cross. Although the waves toss continuously, they can’t break through. Although they roar, they can’t cross it.

Their defender is strong. His name is the Lord of Armies. He will certainly take up their cause in order to bring rest to the land of Israel and unrest to the people who live in Babylon.

Jacob’s God isn’t like them. He made everything, and Israel is the tribe that belongs to him. His name is the Lord of Armies.

“I want to free them from the power of the grave. I want to reclaim them from death. Death, I want to be a plague to you. Grave, I want to destroy you. I won’t even think of changing my plans.”

I, the Almighty Lord, have my eyes on this sinful kingdom. I will wipe it off the face of the earth. But I won’t totally destroy the descendants of Jacob, declares the Lord.

In this way you show that you are children of your Father in heaven. He makes his sun rise on people whether they are good or evil. He lets rain fall on them whether they are just or unjust.

Don’t let yourselves be tempted to worship and serve what you see in the sky—the sun, the moon, the stars, or anything else. The Lord your God has given them to all people everywhere.
