Jeremiah 30:8

God's Word

“On that day,” declares the Lord of Armies, “I will break the yokes  off your necks and tear off your ropes. Foreigners will no longer make you serve them.

He brought them out of the dark, out of death’s shadow. He broke apart their chains.

At that time their burden will be removed from your shoulders. Their yoke  will be removed from your neck. The yoke will be torn away because you have grown fat.

The Lord will have compassion for Jacob and again choose Israel. He will resettle them in their own country. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob.

I’ll crush Assyria on my land. I’ll trample it underfoot on my mountains. Then its yoke  will be removed from my people, and its burden will be removed from their shoulders.”

When that day comes, the Lord will give you relief from your pain and suffering, from the hard slavery you were forced to do.

You will break the yoke  that burdens them, the bar that is across their shoulders, and the stick used by their oppressor, as ⌞you did in the battle against⌟ Midian.

“Long ago you broke off your yoke, tore off your chains, and said that you wouldn’t be a slave. You lay down and acted like a prostitute on every high hill and under every large tree.

Many nations and great kings will make slaves of the people of Babylon, and I will pay them back for what they have done.”

This is what the Lord said to me: Make ⌞leather⌟ straps and a wooden yoke, and strap the yoke on your neck.

All nations will serve him, his son, and his grandson until Babylon is defeated. Then many nations and great kings will make him their slave.

Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it.

“Tell Hananiah, ‘This is what the Lord says: You have broken the wooden yoke, but I  will replace it with an iron yoke.

I will also bring back to this place Jehoiakin, son of King Jehoiakim of Judah, and all the captives of Judah who went to Babylon, declares the Lord. So I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.”

At Tahpanhes the day will turn dark when I break Egypt’s power. Egypt’s strong army will be defeated. Clouds will cover Egypt, and people from its villages will go into exile.

Then the trees in the field will produce fruit, the land will yield crops, and my sheep will live safely in their land. Then they will know that I am the Lord, because I will break off the bars on their yokes  and rescue them from the people who made them slaves.

But now I will break Nineveh’s yoke  off of you and tear its chains from you.
