Now I intend to make a pledge to the Lord God of Israel so that he may turn his burning anger away from us.

Will you be angry with us forever? Will you ever let go of your anger in the generations to come?

Won’t you restore our lives again so that your people may find joy in you?

I will not accuse you forever. I will not be angry with you forever. Otherwise, the spirits, the lives of those I’ve made, would grow faint in my presence.

Don’t be too angry, Lord. Don’t remember our sin forever. Now look, we are all your people.

Go and proclaim these things to the north: “ ‘Come back, unfaithful Israel. It is the Lord speaking. I will no longer frown on you because I’m merciful,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will no longer be angry with you.

The people of Jerusalem turned away from me without ever returning. They still cling to deceit. They refuse to return.

I have paid attention and listened, but they weren’t honest. They don’t turn away from their wickedness and ask, “What have we done?” They go their own ways like horses charging into battle.

“ ‘See how all the princes of Israel who live in you have used their power to murder people.

How horrible it will be for those who invent trouble and work out plans for disaster while in bed. When the morning dawns, they carry out their plans because they are able to.

Their hands are skilled in doing evil. Officials ask for gifts. Judges accept bribes. Powerful people dictate what they want. So they scheme together.
