Do you think you’re a better king than others because you use more cedar? Your father ate and drank and did what is fair and right. Everything went well for him.

So David ruled all Israel. He did what was fair and right for all his people.

Thank the Lord your God, who is pleased with you. He has put you on the throne of Israel. Because of your God’s eternal love for the people of Israel, he has made you king so that you would maintain justice and righteousness.”

Josiah did what the Lord considered right. He lived in the ways of his ancestor David and never stopped.

No king before Josiah had turned to the Lord with all his heart, soul, and strength, as directed in Moses’ Teachings. No other ⌞king⌟ was like Josiah.

Josiah’s firstborn son was Johanan, the second was Jehoiakim, the third was Zedekiah, and the fourth was Shallum.

He did what the Lord considered right. He lived in the ways of his ancestor David and never stopped living this way.

But Josiah would not stop his attack. He disguised himself as he went into battle. He refused to listen to Neco’s words, which came from God, and he went to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

Everything else about Josiah—including his devotion to God by following what is written in the Lord’s Teachings

Mercy and truth protect a king, and with mercy he maintains his throne.

Doing what is right and fair is more acceptable to the Lord than offering a sacrifice.

Take a wicked person away from the presence of a king, and justice will make his throne secure.

By means of justice, a king builds up a country, but a person who confiscates religious contributions tears it down.

Speak out, judge fairly, and defend the rights of oppressed and needy people.”

A country is blessed when the king is from a noble family and when the high officials eat at the right time in order to get strength and not to get drunk.

There is nothing better for people to do than to eat, drink, and find satisfaction in their work. I saw that even this comes from the hand of God.

Tell the righteous that blessings will come to them. They will taste the fruit of their labor.

This person will live on high. His stronghold will be a fortress made of rock. He will have plenty of food and a dependable supply of water.

His government and peace will have unlimited growth. He will establish David’s throne and kingdom. He will uphold it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The Lord of Armies is determined to do this!

descendants of David. This is what the Lord says: Judge fairly every morning. Rescue those who have been robbed from those who oppress them. Otherwise, my fury will break out and burn like fire. No one will be able to put it out because of the evil things you have done.

This is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim, son of Judah’s King Josiah: People won’t mourn for him and say, “How horrible it is for my brother and sister!” They won’t mourn for him and say, “How horrible it is for my master and his splendor!”

“This is what the Lord says: Judge fairly, and do what is right. Rescue those who have been robbed from those who oppress them. Don’t mistreat foreigners, orphans, or widows, and don’t oppress them. Don’t kill innocent people in this place.

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will grow a righteous branch for David. He will be a king who will rule wisely. He will do what is fair and right in the land.

We will obey the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, whether it’s good or bad. Yes, we will obey the Lord our God so that everything will go well for us.”

“ ‘Suppose you really change the way you live and act and you really treat each other fairly.

Give what is inside as a gift to the poor, and then everything will be clean  for you.

The believers had a single purpose and went to the temple every day. They were joyful and humble as they ate at each other’s homes and shared their food.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of God.

Obey his laws and commands which I’m giving you today. Then things will go well for you and your descendants. You will live for a long time in the land. The Lord your God is giving you the land for as long as you live.
